First presented at the Witte de With (Rotterdam), Alia Farid's new exhibition arrives in France! Director Alia Farid grew up between Kuwait and Puerto Rico, a double heritage that makes her identity as an author. For years, she has been studying the impact of colonialism and modernist projects on different cultures. Her latest film, Maske Paske Wi, filmed in Haiti, explores the consequences of the historical revolution that the country has gone through. She films group rituals, social ruptures and individual acts of resistance. Her previous film, At the Time of the Ebb, was shot in Qechm, Iran. A melancholy stroll, it showed the rituals that the inhabitants practice to honour nature during the summer solstice. With discreet staging and gentle atmospheres, his films explore contemporary post-colonial urban life and are based on a deep desire: that of understanding the correlations between the perceptions of surrounding contexts and their evolution. Through them, she seeks not so much to create a finite image as to weave a bond, encouraging creative affinities within communities. More than artistic, her work is social.
