Azzedine Alaia Foundation
20 May → 14 Nov 2021
Open only on Saturday and Sunday, from 11am to 7pm.
Did you know that there was a foundation dedicated to Azzedine Alaia? One imagines not, given the discretion of the launch of this institution in the heart of Paris. For the first exhibition of 2021, the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation celebrates two talents and showcases the work of fashion designer Azzedine Alaïa under the eye of his photographer friend Peter Lindbergh through 100 photographs and couture pieces. The works of Peter Lindbergh and those of Azzedine Alaïa are brought together and converse in a community of spirit that has never wavered. Like the artistic encounters that united Richard Avedon and Christian Dior or Yves Saint Laurent and Helmut Newton, Peter Lindbergh and Azzedine Alaïa have found a common territory where each of their expressions is a reflection of the other. Without saying a word, the photographer and the fashion designer found each other in their affection for black, which they cultivate in equal measure in silver prints or in clothing. Lindbergh never ceases to call for black and white to signify his search for authenticity in the faces he highlights. Alaïa draws on monochrome to create timeless garments, veritable sculptures for the body.
