« A tribute to the most famous couple in contemporary art! »

The Arc de Triomphe, Wrapped (Project for Paris, Place de l'Étoile) is one of the huge projects of the artist couple Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The idea is attributed to Jeanne-Claude, who had already been thinking about wrapping the national monument since the 1960s. It was not until 2020 that Christo fulfilled his late wife's wish. The project was finally postponed until autumn 2021 due to the health situation. Unfortunately, Christo passed away in May 2020. The project will nevertheless be realised, posthumously. A few weeks before his death, he said: "My projects can be built without me". Both Christo and Jeanne-Claude wanted their works in progress to continue after their deaths. The recent death of the artist will not change the installation of the 25,000 square metres of recyclable blue-silver polypropylene fabric and the 7,000 metres of red rope on the Arc de Triomphe! A preview of the project has already been presented at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, through an exhibition of the couple's work from their Parisian period, from 1958 to 1964. The Linda and Guy Pieters Foundation is pleased to present you with an exhibition of the Pont Neuf project only. Discover the sketches of this temporary work through plans and archives of all kinds!
