Galerie Obadia Paris
18 Mar → 31 Jul 2020
From Monday to Saturday from 11 am to 7 pm. Closed on Sunday.
Every year since 2013, the Nathalie Obadia gallery has been participating in Art Basel Hong Kong, a major event on the Asian art scene. Held in Paris, this group exhibition highlights the links that the gallery has been able to forge with the Asia-Pacific region, through collaborations that have multiplied in recent years. With the 2020 edition cancelled, it didn't take long to decide to highlight the artists who were to be presented there, in spite of everything. Lu Chao and Ni Youyu embody the vivacity of young Chinese artists. In different styles, marked by multiple influences and resolutely anchored in the contemporary, they both participate in rediscovering their heritage. Alongside them, Wang Keping, a figure of the Cultural Revolution, has made nature his favourite subject and material. From Australia, India and the Philippines, Brook Andrew deals with his relationship to colonialism, Rina Banerjee is interested in multiculturalism and Manuel Ocampo offers burlesque and iconoclastic paintings. In homage are presented period prints from the series that Agnès Varda made in China, on scenes from the daily life of the Great Leap Forward.
