« Discover the most famous anonymous photographer!  »

Everyone knows the famous advertising campaign for Marlboro and his cowboy. But no one knows who is behind this cliché... It is Ernst Haas, the Austro-American photographer, the precursor of color photography! His signature? Street photography first in black and white and then in color from the early years 1953. His pictures were published in the first color issue of Life Magazine and were exhibited several times at the MoMa during his lifetime. By the way, his studio-studio was next to the museum! This did not prevent him from having a job in addition to his artistic activity. New York is much more than a city for Ernst Haas, it is a muse in his eyes. He loves it, he adores it, he knows it by heart. Poverty, crime and misery are as many subjects as he is aware of the Big Apple bad aspects, as well as the good ones! He experiments at night with his son, but also during the day when he photographs the biggest stars of the time. The arrival of his pictures were a revelation for the progress of color photography.
