Every being seems to be looking for something. Artists even more so, we might say. It's intrinsic to their personality, to their work. "La Quête" is the exhibition that sketches a conclusion to Fabien Verschaere's journey, begun during a residency in South Korea. For several weeks, the artist travelled the country, met local artists and became familiar with a traditional culture, different from his own. Little by little, this journey turned into the discovery of a country with a real inner journey. From introspective research to multicultural impregnation, Fabien Verschaere offers us an artistic journey tinged with his obsessions, his fears, his sufferings, his joys; his life, in short. His works combine multiple influences: medieval imagery, comic strips, psychoanalysis, popular culture and the world of childhood allow him to develop his work as a space of freedom. He creates imaginative and mysterious frescoes, very colourful when they are not monochromatic, where he stages himself in self-portraits of a grimacing clown or a transvestite princess. This is how his inner world and the questions that inhabit it take shape, the depth of his interest in the world, but also his disarray in the face of others.
