Robert Cottingham, one of the great representatives of hyper-realist painting, is in the spotlight for the first time at the GPNV Gallery. Born in 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, the American artist known for his paintings and prints of American urban landscapes depicting building facades, neon signs, movie tents and store fronts. The exhibition "Fictions in the Space Between" covers the artist's entire career. While at 36 rue de Seine will be presented a collection of oils on canvas (dated between 1991 and 2019) accompanied by their preparatory studies, our second space at 33 will take the form of a retrospective of his works on paper. From the Hollywood Villas of 1969 to the most recent Perfume Bottles, the exhibition bears witness to the richness of this hyper-realistic work, which also includes the illuminated signs that made it famous, trains, typewriters, cameras and mechanical parts.
