Colors, softness and geometry dialogue on the walls of the MEP studio where Second-self introduction, the work of Gangao Lang, winner of the Dior Young Talent Photography Prize 2019, is on display. In this series centered around her childhood friend Li Wanyue, the young Chinese photographer saw the opportunity to "represent a strong, independent, and sincere woman who has gone from being a dreamy little girl to a visionary woman. "As a child of the digital age, she plays with the digital tools at her disposal to reappropriate the photographic codes and sublimate her model. She changes the details of her friend's face, creates colour variations in the reds, blues and beiges she uses, or even recomposes the staging of the shot. Graphic and poetic, her portraits take a tender look at their friendly relationship and invite us to enter into their intimacy. By the same means, Gangao Lang offers an allegorical reading of feminine beauty, recomposed. In her lens appear all the strength and softness of the women she photographs.
