Does Mickey's head, traced on a drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, seem impossible to you? Not for Hassan Musa! The Sudanese artist brings together art history and current popular culture in his paintings. The classic format of the religious triptych returns regularly; ornamental motifs such as flowers, birds and twigs decorate the scenes and refer to the Garden of Eden. But the stenciled sentences on the paintings refer directly to today's world. As a result, we are faced with imaginary scenes that pay homage to the great masters of painting such as Leonardo da Vinci or Paul Gauguin, but also to contemporary icons such as Josephine Baker and Che. Musa creates a critical look at Western art, politics and culture.
