Nathalie Obadia has the honor to exhibit Luc Delahaye for his fourth solo show in Paris. Trained as a war photographer, we discover here a painting exhibition. What a surprise! In reality, his paintings are very close to his usual work. During a stay in the north of Senegal, Luc Delahaye made the Village series. Large or small, they give an almost obsolete vision of the difficulty of the work: working the land, execution of a sheep and other ordinary details of life ... We feel like being in front of a banal moment captured furtively by the photographer. This instant realism is actually the result of long exposure sessions by the Senegalese models. These are not scenes taken on the spot but reconstructions of situations seen before! Here are mixed the very contemporary point of view of rural life scenes and the rather classical technique of painting. Nevertheless, we recognize the touch of Luc Delahaye, especially by the documentary apsect of these paintings. The descriptive approach of the real is simply the retranscription in painting of his usual photographic style: frontal, cold, detached and dramatic.
