What do saffron, the card games of the 16th century Romans, the little black dress of Chanel or the Pearl of Abu Dhabi have in common? They were all considered at one time as luxury items! Today, luxury evokes above all the great contemporary houses and, with them, a form of brand consumption, of the "label". Yet it is also embodied in archaeological treasures, precious objects passed down from generation to generation or the delicate know-how of the princely courts. At the heart of this, the decorative arts. The Museum of Decorative Arts has been built with a constant attention to luxury, and today it offers a genealogy of them in its new exhibition. A selection limited to a hundred works illustrates this evolution of refinement. Taking the "French luxury" backwards, the exhibition takes us on a journey through time and cultures, challenging our current conception of luxury. From moments of contemplation to monumental scans, you will have the opportunity to savor all forms of beauty.
