For centuries, humans have been deploying their talents to transform minerals into remarkable gems and jewellery creations that delight the eyes and sublimate appearances. Intimately linked, yet rarely brought together, the worlds of mineralogy, gemmology and jewellery meet in this exhibition of the National Museum of Natural History. To tell their story, more than 500 minerals, gems and objets d'art from the Museum's collections and 200 jewellery creations from the House of Van Cleef & Arpels are brought together! From rocks to crystals and fossils, the exhibition first goes back to the formation of minerals and their use by humans, perfected over time. With their natural diversity, minerals are constantly undergoing metamorphosis, which is addressed in the second part of the scenography to put the work of nature and of human hands into perspective. At the heart of this knowledge, one city: Paris. Since the 17th century, merchants, collectors and scientists have gathered there to spread the love and knowledge of mineralogy. In this immersive visit, a formidable science - aesthetic dialogue is created for all amateurs and curious people!
