« Indispensable of the wardrobe, the sneaker has never been so coveted. Today, they are entering the museum!  »

It has become an accessory for fashionistas and even a work of art for collectors. Basket, sneaker or tennis shoe, whatever you call it, you've got it! Beyond its fashion aspect, the sneaker is above all a technical revolution. The vegetable material mainly used, rubber, was already very appreciated by the Aztecs for its strength and durability. Its industrialization has changed our way of doing sports and walking in general. It is with hip hop in the 90s that the sneaker knows a remarkable success, first in the United States and then in Europe. Much more than a comfortable accessory, the sneaker is social and cultural: it is the symbol of a whole generation that fully appropriates it. It is synonymous with freedom and emancipation. A characteristic that makes even more sense today: the sneaker transcends borders, ages, genders and socio-cultural backgrounds. Discover the origins of the sneaker, from its purely sporting use to the brand image that is conferred on it today. This exhibition is also an opportunity to understand the major issues surrounding the research and development of sneakers: how to produce a lot of them while adapting them to the morphology of everyone? Shoe manufacturers are working hard on this!
