From pigment handprints in prehistoric caves to artists' signatures found on a corner of a sidewalk, the stencil technique has survived for thousands of years. Easily scattered along the streets, stencil, which has become a must in street art, can be used to deliver a quick and powerful message. This art requires a singular, sensitive and meticulous work of the image. If it first involves the creation of a drawing or a message, its cutting and application are an integral part of the work. Presented by the Brugier Rigail gallery, the stencil artists Artiste-Ouvrier, Guy Denning, Miss Tic, Monkeybird, Nick Walker and Speedy Graphito are masters of manual cutting, keeping a close relationship with this part of the work without preferring the use of lasers. From Nick Walker's mix of stencils and raw graffiti to the glamorous silhouettes of Miss Tic and the playful work of Speedy Graphito, each one develops his or her own universe. Their cuts plunge us into intense contemplation, driven by the possibilities of detecting the expertise, the delicacy and the treasures of imagination that are hidden there.
