Since the 19th century, photography has been the main source of inspiration in many fields. Wallpaper designers copy certain motifs from Eugène Atget's flower pictures, Désiré Charney's travel photographs have inspired many an artist, fashion photographs are essential for historians and fashion designers... In short, photography is undoubtedly the best way to disseminate an idea, an image or a historical fact. Here, we are talking about 350,000 phototypes. These are photographs of fashion, architecture, landscape, scenery, travel, heritage, war, advertising photographs... Some of them were taken in the 1940s, others are much more recent. Not only does this exhibition reveal the precise histories of each photograph and the stories they led to. It is also an opportunity for the visitor to understand the importance of the museum in the history and diffusion of the medium.
