Architecture and Heritage City Museum
20 Nov → 16 Mar 2020
From Wed to Mon from 11 am to 7 pm. Nocturnal Thu until 9 pm. Closed Tue.
As part of its Austrian season, the City also invites us to discover the Treasures of Albertina. Lovers of architectural drawings will be delighted. It is a unique opportunity to discover the masterpieces of one of the largest collections in Europe. Through more than a hundred pieces by Giulio Romano, Le Primatice, Le Bernin, Jacopo Sansovino, Francesco Borromini, Johann Fischer von Erlach, Charles de Wailly, Adolf Loos, Frank Lloyd Wright, or Hans Hollein..., the exhibition offers a fascinating insight into the world of architectural drawing. It also invites you to travel the world to meet major architectural projects, both then and now. In a stroll through seven centuries of history, from Antonio Pisanello to Zaha Hadid, the exhibition offers visitors an insight into the secrets of the trade and the imagination of the greatest architects of their time. Palaces, gardens, fountains, churches, cities and surroundings... the art of drawing is inseparable from architecture and its major projects. Thus, the elevation of the Palazzo del Té in Mantua or the dome of St Peter's in Rome remain unavoidable examples: through their formal innovations or technical prowess, such buildings have left their mark on history.
