After studying photography at the Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts in Shenyang, Wang Bing worked on a very personal project. From 1999 to 2003, armed with a digital video camera, he filmed and recorded the lives of workers in the industrial district of Shenyang, threatened by a municipal reform. Entitled West of the Rails (铁西区), this masterful documentary lasts 9 hours. Unique in the history of independent Chinese cinema! Since this film-event, Wang Bing has become a reference in the film world. Humble and relentless, he has made twenty films in twenty years that bring together the words and thoughts of those excluded from Chinese society, all of them embodied and committed. For him, filming is a necessity in order to show the urgency with which a whole social class finds itself. Through an immersive scenography, discover the unprecedented vision of Wang Bing's cinema with six of these films, considered to be the most emblematic according to the curators of the exhibition Dominique Païni and Diane Dufour.
